90% of Chinese imports of olive oil come from European Union (EU) countries, with Spain at the head, which accounts for 61% of the total, followed by Italy (22%), Greece (6%) and Portugal (1%).

The remaining 10% comes from Tunisia (3%), Turkey (2%), Australia (2%) and (Syria 1%).

This follows from the latest market report of the International Olive Council (IOC), which noted that Chinese imports of olive oil and olive pomace oil have kept an exponential growth between the period 2001/02 and 2011/12, although they have decreased a 6% in the last year 2012/13.

Specifically, according to the latest data from the agency, imports of olive oil from China have increased from 567 tonnes in 2001/02 to 42,379 tonnes in 2012/13.
