ICEX Spain Export and Investment has published a detailed analysis of the olive oil market in Slovakia in which places Spain as leader of the Slovak market, closely followed by Italy and far away from Germany and France. The report also highlights that most of the olive juice consumed in the country is virgin.
The analysis, updated in February 2015 and that has considered only those varieties suitable for human consumption as it incorporates olive pomace oil, includes production data, business figures related to imports and exports, marketing channels, product references and olive oil varieties, plus consumer trends and aspects on prices for the final customer.
As reported in the analysis, Slovakia imports from otrer countries all the olive oil consumed, since it is not a producer country. Most of the country’s imports (2,245 tons in 2014) came from with Spain in the lead (39.11% in 2014). Second comes Italy (20%), followed by Germany (4.1%) and France (2.9%). Czech Republic also has a significant market share of imports (27.1%), but sales are based on re-export.
