Angelo J. Puppolo Jr., D-Springfield, presented a special citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives on Nov. 8 to local businessman Manny Rovithis, owner of Manny’s TV and Appliance, in recognition of his newest venture, Manny’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
“Manny’s family-owned TV and appliance store has been a regional success story for more than 30 years and represents the strength and staying power of locally owned businesses in our area,” Puppolo said in a release. “Now he is applying his creativity, business expertise and knowledge of what goes into producing top quality olive oil into growing this new business which has already shown great promise.”
Rovithis launched his olive oil business in September 2012 and, less than a year later, in April of this year, his cold-pressed, unfiltered, unblended, pure Greek extra-virgin olive was awarded a Silver Medal at The New York International Olive Oil Competition.
The oil comes from Rovithis’ hometown on the Island of Crete in Greece, where his family owns many of the olive groves that were farmed by his ancestors and where, Rovithis says, the best olive oil in the world has been produced for thousands of years.
