Several extra virgin olive oils from Argentina, Chile, South Africa and Uruguay have been awarded in the first edition of the SOL d’Oro Southern Hemisphere, while different olive juices from Australia and Peru have received Honorable Mentions in the contest led by the Chile Tasting Panel Association and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture in this country and the Imagen Foundation of Chile.

The contest, held in Santiago de Chile between 29th September and 2nd October, received a total of 70 samples of extra virgin olive oil from six countries, which were tasted by a panel of experts from Italy, Spain, Greece, United States, Argentina and Chile who chose the winners through a “rigorous” selection process.

“We wanted to impress the jury with olive oils from the Southern Hemisphere and certainly we succeeded. We are very pleased with the number of samples and the quality of them in this first edition,” said Joseph Mingo, president of Chile Tasting Panel Association.
