We are one of the leading academic units in the UK conducting Women’s Health research. We recently won an award from Barts Charity to assess the benefits of a healthy diet based on Mediterranean pattern in pregnant women. This study has the potential to change the dietary habits of pregnant women nationally.
We plan to recruit 1062 pregnant women and provide extra virgin Olive oil 0.5l/week and nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts and almond) 30g/day as part of the intervention to half of them. We start our recruitment later this year and are currently looking for a commercial partner who is interested in bearing the costs of extra virgin olive oil and/or nuts. We are in joint partnership with Spanish experts whose work on a similar diet in non-pregnancy reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke or death by a third (PREDIMED study). That study was sponsored by olive oil and nut industry.
We will be able to acknowledge your contribution in all publications (which would involve press releases and no doubt much media attention should we demonstrate a significant positive impact on the health of these women and babies (as shown recently by a similar study in non-pregnancy in Spain)). We are also happy to use your logo, thus increase exposure.
A beneficial effect has widespread implications not only nationally but internationally in promoting Mediterranean diet in pregnancy, with specific focus on extra virgin olive oil and nuts. Please let us know if you interested in this exciting opportunity. We look forward to hearing from you shortly.
