  • Hispack & BTA's joint plan for internationalization

Now in their third edition together, Hispack & BTA are focusing on internationalization. For 2015, both shows have doubled their efforts and resources to attract a higher number of foreign buyers, offering the 1,285 participating companies -35% of which are international- the chance to make business contacts with trade professionals from different countries that could result in new export opportunities.

From 21 to 24 April, Hispack & BTA will become a huge centre of business, knowledge and networking for the packaging and food technology industries, sharing important synergies. Both trade fairs expect to attract 35,000 visitors, 10% of them from outside Spain.

Hispack & BTA’s joint plan for internationalization seeks out buyers, distributors and machinery importers -mainly from Europe, the Mediterranean and Latin America- as well as the emerging nations in Asia or Africa that may offer new opportunities for the Spanish packaging and food technology industries.

Several direct promotional campaigns have been implemented by AMEC and the foreign delegations of Fira de Barcelona.

In total they have targeted more than 20 countries: Germany, France, Italy Portugal, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt, China, India, Angola, Ghana, Malaysia and the Gulf States (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Iran).

    More than 1,000 business meetings
This year, Hispack & BTA anticipates exceeding one thousand business meetings between exhibitors and trade professionals from 35 countries at the International Business Centre (IBC) in Hall 4 of the Gran Via Exhibition Centre.

To achieve this, apart from the general campaigns to attract foreign visitors taking place in the selected countries, Hispack & BTA will invite around 70 international executives through the Hosted Buyers programme, each with projects for buying equipment, machinery and technologies for the food, processing, labelling and packaging industries as well as packaging products and materials. These buyers will have prescheduled appointments with exhibiting companies arranged by the organizers.

Similarly, reverse trade missions are being organized as part of the show with delegations from India, Malaysia, Ghana, Angola and the Gulf States to encourage business meetings.

At the same time, various events will be taking place that include bilateral talks and business meetings with foreign buyers in which more than 160 international companies will be involved. This is the Med Foodtech Roadshow, organized by AMEC, which invites North African companies to participate with European firms in a seminar on business in the Southern Mediterranean and a networking session. Hispack & BTA will also host the Brokerage Event organized by ITENE, FIAB and the Enterprise Europe Network, bringing together providers of packaging, food processing and innovation management as well as firms from the meat, dairy and canning industry from several EU Member States.

Meanwhile, the International Business Centre will have a networking area offering personalized advice to all international visitors to Hispack & BTA as well as other activities such as the seminar on internationalization -organized by FIAB, CDTI and ITYA-and AINIA’s technology mission.

The president of the Organizing Committee of Hispack, Javier Riera-Marsá, is convinced that this edition of Hispack & BTA will mark “a turning point for recovering strong and sustained growth in domestic demand and that it will provide an excellent platform for the packaging and food technology industries to continue exporting and achieve a greater presence in the global market.”

  • SIMEI - 26th International Enological and Bottling Equipment Exhibition

SIMEI logoSIMEI – International Enological and Bottling Equipment Exhibition – is the WORLD LEADER in wine technology and the only international biennial exhibition which presents at the same time machinery, equipment and products for production, bottling and packaging of all drinks.

More than six billion hectoliter drinks of all sorts are drunk usually in the world and the consumption has a steady increase: this important sector needs always more technologically state-of-art machinery and equipment in order to improve the quality and to control the production costs.

Simei meets all these requirements in a strictly specialized way. The displayed range actually includes small-, medium- and large-sized bottling line equipment, all kind of machinery for wine-making and the various wine treatments, materials and machines for the packaging cycle of bottled liquids, in-house equipment, containers in any shape or form, technological adjuvants and so on in the technically most modernized and economically most advantageous version.

For more than 50 years SIMEI has been a protagonist among the international exhibitions: a must you can’t miss.

New dates for the next SIMEI, bringing forward the event from 3rd to 6th November 2015 instead of from 17th to 20th.

The change thus prevents the overlap with ITMA – the International Textile Machinery Exhibition – also due to take place at Fiera Milano Rho from 12th to 19th November – and therefore facilitates logistics for exhibitors and organizers and planning for visitors (accommodation, traffic, etc.)

In addition, the opening on 3rd November is very close to the closing of Expo 2015 (31st October), creating an interesting opportunity for visitors, especially foreigners, to participate in two events of global significance.

The organization of the 26th edition of SIMEI is in full swing and a large number of participations are coming in, confirming the high level of the event, a world leader in wine technology and important international showcase for the beverage sector. Organized by Unione Italiana Vini, the Exhibition brings together all the big players in the wine sector worldwide to present the best technologies and all that is new in production.

The two international events are confirmed: the “Conference on Sustainability”, which continues the study work started already last year, and the first “International Conference on Sensory Analysis”, whose Steering Committee is chaired by Professor Anita Oberholster, Cooperative Extension Specialist in Enology at the Faculty of Viticulture and Enology, University of Davis, California.

  • The first olive oil festival to unite Greek & Turkish Cypriot producers

Olive oil Festival- LtoR Crop Husbandry director Christian Harel, ZEYBIR’s chairman Irfan Celik and SEKEP’s chairman Philippos Kameris

THE first bi-communal olive oil festival will mark the beginning of a cooperation that will benefit producers on both sides of the divide, Greek and Turkish Cypriot olive oil producers’ associations SEKEP and ZEYBIR announced yesterday.

The festival, called ‘Let’s grow together’ is taking place at the weekend at the Ledra Palace checkpoint area and is supported by the EU-funded ‘Crop Husbandry’ project that has been providing technical support to Turkish Cypriot farmers for the last six years.

“We hope that this meeting will be the beginning of a new cooperation between the two organisations that will contribute to the support of the Cypriot olive producers,” SEKEP chairman Philippos Kameris said.

He said that SEKEP’s goal is to support Cypriot olive oil producers to find new markets, grow new olive varieties and fight the olive fruit fly (Dacus).
“As Cypriot olive producers we were working together in many mixed villages before 1974 and now we decided to get together under the umbrella of the European Union with this weekend’s event,” Kameris said.

  • Olive oil packaging innovation exhibition Hispack 2015

Hispack is setting itself a double challenge at its next edition, on 21 to 24 April 2015 at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via exhibition centre: ensuring its offering and activities feature the necessary innovations and trends that will define the development of new packaging, and helping companies in the sector to find the contacts and opportunities they need to export to both the EU and emerging markets, especially the Mediterranean region and Latin America.

With some 620 direct exhibitors expected to take part, the leading packaging trade show in Spain will be shining a spotlight on technologies, processes, sustainability, new materials, smart packaging, customization, logistics and point of purchase advertising, amongst other areas.

Hispack -which will cover the entire packaging value chain- is determined to bring in exhibitors who can provide innovative solutions for the manufacture of packaging in response to demands from visitors to the show from the sectors of food and beverages, perfumery and cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

The president of Hispack’s organizing committee, Javier Riera Marsá, sees the show’s turnaround to involve visitors right from the outset and thus improve the show’s effectiveness and return on investment as a real success: “We’ve taken a step forward and asked the sectors that buy packaging exactly what they’re looking for so we can provide it.

We’re very much aware that the demand for innovations in materials, processes and products to optimize costs, to be more sustainable and to sell more at the point of sale will define the forthcoming edition.”

    New areas
In this respect, Hispack is including two new areas: the first of these is TrendPack, featuring companies with solutions for sustainable, smart, multi-channel, convenience and customizable packaging with an interest in making contact with packaging, business, R+D+I and marketing managers from companies in numerous sectors seeking to add value and make their products stand out through packaging.

Another brand new section is PremiumPack, an area devoted to packaging for high-end cosmetics, perfumery, gourmet food and drink products and jewellery. This space comes in response to the anticipated growth in demand for packaging that adds exclusivity and glamour to luxury products. The British consultancy company Smithers Pira has estimated this growth at an annual rate of 4.4% over the next five years.

Confirmed bookings as of November 2014
With just five months to go before the event opens, Hispack has already received confirmation from 338 companies in 15 countries (Germany, Belgium, China, South Korea, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Taiwan, Turkey and the UK) with 80% of the planned exhibition space already booked.

By sectors, machinery and accessories for packaging currently account for the most exhibitors, followed by raw materials, packaging materials, and labelling, coding and marking equipment. Growth has also been noted in the sectors of handling and logistics and PoP.

Hispack will be held at the same time as the food technology fair Bta. By uniting the commercial offering of the two trade fairs, it is expected that more than 1,100 direct exhibitors and over 35,000 trade visitors will be hosted by the shows next April.

Given that the food and beverage industry is the main user of packaging, Hispack & Bta combine synergies to demonstrate the different phases of food production, from ingredients through to the manufacturing process, embracing packing, packaging and final delivery to the point of sale. This alliance, as demonstrated at the last three editions of the event, is certainly no hindrance for all the other major packaging buying sectors to attend Hispack (cosmetics, perfumery, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automobiles, domestic electrical appliances, household goods, etc.) in search of processing and packaging solutions to make them more competitive.

    Access to new markets
As well as being a benchmark for the packaging industry and galvanizing sales in Spain and Portugal, Hispack is also an excellent platform for making contacts with new buyers from Europe, the Mediterranean region and Latin America. The show’s current goal is to expand export opportunities for its exhibitors and in conjunction with Bta it is developing promotional programmes in ten countries (Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Algeria, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Peru and Venezuela). At the same time, work is ongoing on the organization of reverse trade missions and business meetings between delegations of trade professionals and exhibitors based on the selection of around 50 buyers with purchasing power from Russia, India, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Angola, Ghana and South Africa.

Finally, Hispack will also be a hub of knowledge, networking, debate, training and trendsetting in the world of packaging and PoP thanks to its different activities. The show organized by Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the Graphispack Association is strengthening the Pack & Logistic Corner, which will feature short conferences at which experts will present success stories, good practices and innovations. Subject will range from design and logistics to e-commerce, distribution, materials, processes, PoP and branding, amongst others.

Hispack is also preparing a specific project to showcase applications and innovations associated with the technological phenomenon of the Internet of Things (IoT) which facilitates digital connectivity between the internet and everyday objects such as packaging. There will also be a series of technical talks, conferences and seminars, supported by sector organizations, plus the Liderpack Awards, an international benchmark thanks to its connection with the WorldStar Packaging Awards, which recognize the best packaging “made in Spain.”
