More than half of olive oil users agree choosing an olive oil is confusing because they aren’t sure what’s important. In fact, only 25 percent say they are “very knowledgeable” about olive oil, according to a new study conducted by the North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA) of more than 2,000 olive oil users.

Currently only 4 in 10 U.S. consumers use olive oil, accounting for about15 percent of the retail volume sales compared to other cooking oils.

The NAOOA is sharing its findings, tips on how to help consumers increase their olive oil knowledge and reminding health experts gathered at the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics annual Food & Nutrition Conference and Expo in Atlanta of the mounting evidence of olive oil’s health benefits.
