Among other experiments, in collaboration with the researcher Jesús Osada, senior coordinator of the Molecular Basis of Atherosclerosis Group in the University of Zaragoza, they have studied the possible therapeutic effects of a diet enriched with extra virgin olive oil in mice with ALS disease.

The results of this research show that the quantity of oil supplied to the animals is in humans equivalent to the intake of 119 grams of extra virgin olive oil a day (corresponding to eight tablespoons).

As the University of Zaragoza highlights in a statement, these results, although preliminary, are very encouraging. Altough further studies are needed to determine whether this effect found in animals also occurs in ALS human patients.
