Turkish investors purchase Victoria olive orchard. Just two years after Jim Henry announced plans to develop a 30,000 olive-tree orchard in Victoria, he said Friday that a major change was coming to his Texas Olive Ranch.

The transfer of orchard’s ownership was final in June, he said. He is retaining ownership of an orchard in Carrizo Springs and the Texas Olive Ranch name.

“I’m not a farmer; I’m not sure what I am,” Henry said.

To date, Henry has planted about 300 acres of olive trees, an amount he said is a drop in the bucket.

“To do this, it’s a scale of economics … It’s beyond what I want to do at this point in my life.”

(Jim) Henry established his niche in the speciality oil business, but under Turkish leadership, the olive orchard he planted in Victoria could become a major player in the domestic olive oil industry.

Turkey is one of the largest olive oil producers in the world, according to information from the International Olive Oil Council.
