  • IOC to offer its patronage to EVOO competitions and what do tasters say about

Expectation, doubt, suspicion… and hope define the reactions of the tasters at the open letter made public by the International Olive Council (IOC) announcing that it plans to offer its patronage provided that a number of minimal conditions are met, particularly concerning entry representativity and taster skills, or to publish recommendations free for anyone to use. Spanish online magazine Mercacei has consulted some of the most prestigious Spanish tasters and experts for their comments on the report.

Nowadays a plethora of competitions, both public and private, pursue this same objective, “but some are based on rules that do not offer guarantees that entries are representative of real commercial production or that they are evaluated by recognised sensory analysis professionals.”, higjlights the IOC, adding that “this is more likely to create confusion than to generate real interest among distributors and producers, and even consumers in general.”

In the letter, signed by the IOC executive director, Jean-Louis Barjol, it says that some of the existing competitions are based on standards that “do not offer guarantees” for the producers.

Note that other sources consulted by Mercacei, have indicated the possibility that this announcement of the IOC occurs with the intention of providing the body itself of contents due to the instability that lives in this organization in recent times.read more
