  • Two Italians in Taipei for the culture of the extra virgin olive oil

Marco Antonucci and Fausto Borella, collaborators of Teatro Naturale, despite the crisis this year, continue undeterred to divulge to the world the culture of extra virgin Italian and in December will be in Taipei.

In December, the company Clubalogue will organize in Taipei, capital of Taiwan, a course of approach and disclosure related to the world of extra. To do this tge company asked Marco Antonucci, coordinator of the International Olive Oil Experts and Fausto Borella, founder of Maestrod’olio, to keep the entire course in English, which will be divided in two classes and will take place inside the prestigious Palais de Chine Hotel from ‘8 to 14 December.

Two aspects, however, characterize – and draw attention – on the course.

The first is the “students”, which will be chefs and buyers. This highlights a particular attention from operators toward foods that are not part of their traditional culture but that may well be part of it: an attention that is sometimes hard to find in other states where olive oil is more common and known compared to oil obtained from the seeds.

The second aspect concerns “oils” that will be used. The two speakers in fact have personally selected forty different oils from all over Italy, trying to well represent all regions.

  • Huge investments in Cordoba from Portuguese Sovena & Spanish Deoleo

Sovena, through its subsidiary Elaia, had purchased nearly 500 acres of land in the countryside of Cordoba and now provides for the development of this farm that will be managed by the method superintensive.

The initial project plans to plant 1 million olive trees, for an estimated production in 5 years a million kilos of olives. The company will employ 80 people.

The varieties that will be planted are Arbequina, Sikitita and the new 6-10, that still does not have a trade name.

Soon, 500 acres, according to the draft Sovena, 250 more will be added, bringing the agricultural area to 700 acres olivetati in Andalusia.

The project is very similar to Sovena Projecto Tierra launched years ago by brothers Salazar, when he still had control of Sos Cuetara (now Deoleo).

The stated objective by the brothers Salazar, who wanted to spread the intensive system, was to reach the 10,000 hectares planted in the world to get to cover, in the space of ten years, 30% of the demand for olive oil group Sos Cuetara.

In reality, the project never went beyond the 2,400 acres actually planted and was finally dismantled by the new leadership in 2010.

  • Extra virgin olive oil could cut your heart attack risk in just six weeks

Olive oil contains omega-6 fats, a form of healthy polyunsaturates which blocks the body’s response to inflammation in chronic conditions such as heart disease and arthritis. Olive oil unsaponifiable fraction, as poliphenols, exerts an anti-inflammatory role in inflammatory bowel disease patients.

Olive oil consumption is associated with cardiovascular disease prevention because of both its oleic acid and phenolic contents.

The capacity of olive oil phenolics to protect against low density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation is the basis for a health claim by the European Food Safety Authority. Proteomic biomarkers enable an early, presymptomatic diagnosis of disease, which makes them important and effective, but understudied, tools for primary prevention.

Glasgow researchers evaluated the impact of supplementation with olive oil, either low or high in phenolics, on urinary proteomic biomarkers of coronary artery disease (CAD), chronic kidney disease (CKD), and diabetes.
