  • Exports of olive oil have reached in Spain a historic record

    Spanish olive oil exports reached a record 1,110,800 tons in the 2013/14 season, 76% more than in the previous season and increasing 43% compared to the average of the previous four campaign. This amount represents a new record, with 235,000 tons more than the previous record set in 2011/2012.

    The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Magrama) and the olive oil sector held a meeting on Wednesday to analyze the market situation, from data provided by the Agency for Information and Food Control (AICA) of the end of the crop year 2013/2014.

    From these data it appears that the average monthly output of this period was 92,600 tons. Meanwhile, imports, with preliminary data for September, are estimated at 58,200 tons.

    Meanwhile, production stood at 1,780,200 million tons, exceeding by nearly 165,000 tons data recorded in the previous record season 2011/12. According to the AICA, this volume is 188% higher than last year and 42% higher than the average of the last four. The olive milled has been 8,769,749 tones with an average yield of 20.3%.
