Over 83% of total imports proceed from the European Union (EU) countries.
Spain, with 58% and 18,812.43 tonnes, is its main supplier, according to Global Trade International data, collected in the latest International Olive Council (IOC) market report.
Spain is followed by Italy, with 24% of Russian imports of olive oil (8,039 tonnes), Greece (9% and 2977.67 tonnes), and Tunisia (with 4% and 1388.32 tonnes).
The rest of the countries exported less than 500 t. each and between them stand Portugal, Turkey, Jordan, Chile and Australia.
As for oil categories, 65% corresponded to virgin olive oil, 18% to olive oil and a 17% to olive pomace oil.
According to the IOC, over the past 10 seasons and despite some ups and downs in the 2005/06 and 2008/09 campaigns, Russian imports increased an average of 7%, going from 7,728 tonnes in 2002/03 to 32,517 tonnes in 2012/13.
