  • Trinity Logistics will serve exclusively Pompeian Inc. - the US largest national brand of olive oil

Pompeian, founded in 1906 and headquartered in Baltimore, is America’s largest national brand of olive oil, best-selling wine vinegars and a variety of cooking wines.

Well-known as the industry leader, Pompeian is the first brand to carry the USDA Quality Monitored seal on its extra virgin olive oil.

Trinity Logistics has been serving Pompeian’s full truckload shipping needs for fifteen years. As is the case with many manufacturers in the beginning phase of logistics outsourcing, the partnership between Trinity and Pompeian began as a transactional, load-by-load relationship.

Over the years, as Trinity arranged thousands of truckload shipments for Pompeian, including just-in-time expedited shipments, a 15-year track record of successful truckload shipping for Pompeian and its customers emerged.

This long-standing relationship built on trust and continued success is what ultimately led to Trinity being selected as Pompeian’s single-source logistics provider.

  • Tithorea - Taste of Greece in Canadian downtown

Olives grown in the soil below Mount Parnassus near the Greek village of Tithorea produce some of the best olive oil in the world, so Dora Tsagias was elated when her father called and said he was sending some to her.

“I was excited because I hadn’t got a tin of olive oil in so long,” said Tsagias. “He said 2,000 bottles are on their way in two weeks. When I asked what am I going to do with 2,000 bottles, he said you are going to find a store and you are going to open it and sell olive oil from it.”

Less than three months later Tsagias opened Tithorea.

“The people here at the Old Quebec Street mall were so kind,” she said. “We negotiated really quickly. They gave me the keys to the store on Feb 15. Two weeks later I had my oil and my opening.”

She knew there was demand for the olive oil but wasn’t sure they could sustain the business selling that alone.

  • Buyers to recapitalise Deoleo, not hive it off

A number of foreign funds are vying to take over Spain’s Deoleo, the world’s top olive oil bottler with brands like Carbonell, a source close to the deal said on Thursday, in a deal that has become highly politicised.

Spain is the world’s biggest olive oil producer. Its olive oil exports are surging and the industry is seen as a growth area especially for the south of the country, which is plagued by high unemployment.

With olive-growing rival Italy’s state-backed fund Fondo Strategico Italiano (FSI) having expressed an interest in Deoleo, the Spanish government has said it does not want the company to be split up.

The source said six offers were submitted before a deadline on Wednesday, from private equity firms Carlyle and Rhone Capital, both from the United States, Britain’s CVC, France’s PAI Partners, an Italian fund, and one other.
