  • Taiwan Claims Italian Olive Pomace Oil Contains Green Colorant

Olitalia is the latest exporter to have its olive pomace oil rejected by Taiwan for allegedly containing the green colorant copper chlorophyll.
Amid international concerns about the certainty of its testing, Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has announced that a nearly 17-ton shipment from the Italian supplier must be either destroyed or returned because the compound was detected in it.

Expert says compound can occur naturally in olive pomace oil and grapeseed oil.

  • At Bella Balsamic, Olive Oil and vinegar become Fine Art

If olive oil and balsamic vinegar were considered fine art, Jeremy and Rebecca Berlin would be gallery owners. That’s the best way I can describe their business, Bella Balsamic & The Pressed Olive, inside Fishermen’s Village, 1200 W. Retta Esplanade, Punta Gorda (www.BellaBalsamic.biz).

No fruit seems off limits for the vinegars, from black cherry to coconut, pomegranate to peach, not to mention flavors such as chocolate, espresso, lavender, maple vanilla and serrano pepper. Black truffle, blood orange, Persian lime and sesame are just some of the accompanying olive oils. All told, they offer more than 50 varieties.

All of Bella Balsamic’s oils are extra virgin cold-pressed, and go through a third-party lab analysis tracing the oil to the farmer, the farm and the date it was picked.
