Victorian based extra virgin olive oil producer Cobram Estate has taken home eight awards at the 2013 Australian Olive Association (AOA) National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition held in Hobart earlier this week.

Established in 1998, Cobram Estate is the leading provider of olive oil in Australia, and a leader in Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). The brand was launched domestically in 2001, distributing through premium stockists including The Essential Ingredient in Melbourne and Sydney, and Black Pearl Epicure in Brisbane. In 2002, Cobram Estate entered the national retail market, listing its Fresh and Fruity EVOO in Coles and Woolworths Stores. It was the first 100 per cent Australian EVOO brand to take this step.

Cobram Estate launched an export range to the USA in 2003 and today exports to countries including Canada, the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Thailand, the Maldives and Japan.

From the six olive oils entered, Cobram Estate collected a total of eight awards including a gold for the Cobram Estate Premiere and Hojiblanca, and silver for its Light, Classic, Robust and Picual extra virgin olive oils.

“With the quality of olive oils coming out of the 2013 season there is little wonder why sales of Australian extra virgin olive oil sales have grown 50% over the past 12 months,” said Cobram Estate’s Co-founder Rob McGavin.

“Consumers know that by trading up to high quality, fresh, locally grown extra virgin olive oil they are getting a healthier, tastier and fresher product that the international oils just can’t deliver.”

Internationally renowned judge and competition Chairman, Richard Gawel was highly impressed with the standard of the oils at the event.

“The degree of freshness and ‘vitality’ in the better oils was outstanding. I would suggest that the best oils here would easily hold their own in international line-ups,” he said.

The awards last night were a welcomed addition to Cobram Estate’s already stellar collection of awards that the producer has collected this year.

Throughout the 2013, Cobram Estate has now won a total of 46 awards including six trophies and 13 gold medals. The company also relieved two Best-in-Class trophies and four gold medals at the inaugural 2013 New York International Olive Oil Competition.
